When was the last time you had to make a decision for your business?
It was was probably a few minutes, hours or day ago, right?
We have to make decisions in business all the time. They might not be big decisions all the time and they might be very simple to make, but you must make them.
When was the last time you made a really big decision about your business? If you’re like most people in business then you might end up procrastinating, making other, simpler decisions or simply doing other things that are easier.
You’ll end up putting off that important bigger thing until later.
But what happens when it finally becomes too late?
Ever felt alone with your business?
I have. Running a business can feel lonely. It’s one of the major reasons I run a region in 4Networking – I’m part of something bigger. Do people close to you put doubt in your mind about your business? Do they doubt your ability and your business acumen? It’s very normal, but not at all helpful.
Do you want to put your business up a gear and drive it forward?
I’ve always been on a board of directors and they have always provided me with a number of things:
• Sounding Board
• Questioning of ideas
Why would you need a board of Directors?
Firstly, you might be a director. Do you know what you need to do? A lot of small business owners don’t. Don’t worry – it’s really quite simple!
Here’s what a board should do:
The board of directors are in charge of the management of the company’s business; they make the strategic and operational decisions of the company and are responsible for ensuring that the company meets its statutory obligations.
A Board of Directors might be exactly what you need to help your business move forward.
But what if you aren’t in the position to be able to get a board of directors?
I know from experience of working on a board that it can revolutionise a business and catapult it through a plateau or galls ceiling.
But they come at a cost.
You might find these will get in your way to having your own board:
- You can’t afford to start one
- You don’t know who the people who would make good directors to really help you and your business?
- You wouldn’t know how to appoint a director?
- You wouldn’t want to give up some of the control of your business?
For 15 years I was a Chief Financial Officer/ Finance Director/ Company Secretary to SME’s. I was a qualified Non-Executive Director after completing the Financial Times Non-Executive Director Diploma.
You could say I’m really into this idea!
A board would really help your business but it’s out of reach to many SME’s…
… that’s why I’ve created Your Virtual Board.
